Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalu and Monreale
The Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale is a series of nine churches and other structures, that since 2015 have made up a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Palermo accounts for most of the structures with the remaining two being the Monreale Cathedral in the hills just south of Palermo, and Cefalù Cathedral which is further to the east. |
The structures in Palermo include Palermo Cathedral and the Royal Palace of Palermo (also known as the Palazzo Reale or the Palazzo dei Normanni) which includes the Palatine Chapel. Among the smaller churches in Palermo included in the listing are the Chiesa di San Cataldo, the Chiesa di San Giovanni degli Eremiti and the Chiesa di Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio which is also known simply as La Martorana. Completing the list are the Castello della Zisa and the Ponte dell'Ammiraglio (Admiral's Bridge).
