Aegadian Islands Ferry Timetables
Latest update: 9 February 2024
The Aegadian Islands ferry timetables detail the various routes to and from three pretty islands that lie just off the coast of Trapani in the west of Sicily.
Each of Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo can be reached from the two Sicilian mainland ports of Trapani and Marsala. The majority of visitors to the island group make their way via Trapani from where a larger number of crossings are available. Two companies operate the routes: Liberty Lines with their foot passenger only hydrofoils, and Siremar with their vehicle ferries. |

Reaching the Aegadian Islands
The most common route into the Aegadian Islands is from the port of Trapani. The bustling port town lies 15 kilometres east of Levanzo with the fastest journey time of just 25 minutes. The most popular of the three islands is Favignana which lies directly south of Levanzo and separated by a distance of six kilometres, making that particular route one of the shortest between ports in Italy.
As many as 18 crossings are available per day at the height of summer between Favignana and Trapani, while a smaller number of sailings are available to the third island: Marettimo. Lying 38 kilometres west of Trapani, Marettimo is the furthest from the Sicilian mainland of the three islands with a fastest journey time from there of just over an hour.
Crossings into the Aegadian Islands are also available from the port of Marsala which lies 30 kilometres south of Trapani. However, the number of daily sailings from Marsala is much smaller than those from Trapani; the highest number being the five daily crossings between Marsala and Favignana which are available at the height of summer. That said, the route is available all year round, just with less frequent crossings out of season.
Boat Types and Ferry Companies
As with most commercial sea routes in Italy, there's a choice between ferry and hydrofoil. Whereas the ferries can carry both passengers and vehicles, the hydrofoils are for foot passengers only. Very few tourists take a car across to the Aegadian Islands, as apart from the restrictions in place for that, there are very few roads. Other means of getting around on each island are available such as bicycles, scooters or tours with private excursion groups.
The ferries, which are operated by Siremar, are usually the cheapest option and also in their favour is that you can sit out on deck and enjoy the view. Those are really the only two advantages however and they are outweighed by the shorter journey times and greater frequency of crossings available with the Liberty Lines hydrofoils.
Timetables
Detailed timetables for each route are available by clicking on the appropriate link above or by using the booking engine below to check the latest times. Some points to note include the whole route that Liberty Lines take in certain instances. For example: many of the hydrofoils leaving Trapani will first stop at Levanzo, followed by Favignana and then on to Marettimo. It's often the case that the hydrofoil will come back the same way but it's also worth checking this before making your journey as there are some variations to the pattern.
Ticket Booking
The ticket booking engine below is provided by a company called Traghettilines/OK Ferry. We just host in on our pages for your convenience. It's worth noting that booking fees apply when purchasing your tickets on-line that may not be the case when buying them directly from the ticket office at the relevant port. Yes, by purchasing your ticket on-line you're guaranteeing yourself a place on your desired crossing, but it's usually only at the peak times, the middle of August being the absolute peak, when there's a risk of a boat being at maximum capacity. Even on those occasions, it's rare that you have to wait too long for the next sailing, depending on the route of course.

Favignana is the most popular of the three Aegadian Islands, as well as the largest. These factors combine to ensure that this is the busiest island in terms of hydrofoil and ferry crossings available.
The most popular route in and out of Favignana is via the port of Trapani which is 25 minutes away with 15 crossings available in each direction at the height of summer. If you're planning on doing some island hopping then Favignana is just about the best island to do that from as it's just six kilometres from Levanzo and 23 km from Marettimo. Accommodation options on Favignana far outweigh what's available on the other islands. |

Levanzo is the smallest of the three Aegadian Islands but no less charming than the other two. Whereas Favignana is heaving with tourists during the summer, things never go far above "sedate" in Levanzo where the pace of life is somehow even slower. Options for accommodation in Levanzo are extremely limited which makes it more suitable for a day trip or even just a brief visit.
If making your way into the Aegadian Islands from Trapani, Levanzo is the first stop your hydrofoil will make; the 15 kilometre distance being covered in just 25 minutes. It's an even shorter hop from Levanzo to the next island: Favignana which lies six kilometres to the south and takes as little as ten minutes to reach. |
Individual Timetables from Levanzo
Although the three Aegadian Islands lie in such close proximity, it's interesting to note how different each one is from the next.
Marettimo is the furthest of the three from the Sicilian mainland and offers a contrast to the beaches of Favignana and the open landscapes of Levanzo. A huge draw for hikers, Marettimo's attractive port quickly gives way to steep inclines and forest walking trails which are well maintained and provide some dazzling scenery. Of the three islands, this is the one that requires the most time to visit; partially because it's the furthest from the Sicilian mainland, but also because the hiking trails require a minimum of half a day to take a circular route back to the port. |

Marsala is a busy port town whose name has long been associated with the dessert wine produced in the local area. Throughout the town there are places where you can try the fortified wines which carry the important DOC status.
Italian history buffs will also tell you that Marsala is the port where Garibaldi landed with his "thousand" in 1860, the first step of a bitter struggle called the Risorgimento which eventually concluded with Italy becoming the unified nation that we see today. Hydrofoil sailings from Marsala to Favignana are available all year round while the routes to Levanzo and Marettimo are seasonal. |

Trapani provides the vast majority of sea crossings to and from the Aegadian Islands and with its excellent accommodation options, it provides the ideal base from which to explore the archipelago.
You can for example, spend three nights in Trapani and visit each of the islands in turn. It's just a 25 minute hop to the closest island which is Levanzo while the more popular Favignana is just another 5 minutes away. Even Marettimo which is the furthest island of the three is only an hour away by Liberty Lines hydrofoil. The city of Trapani itself offers historic monuments and churches as well as the "alla Trapanese" cooking style. |
