Considering the island region has been bitterly fought over for thousands of years, it comes as no surprise that there are a large number of historic towns of Sicily. They come from different epochs and eras with influences of Greek, Roman, Arab and other cultures coming to the fore.
Nowhere is that Greek influence more strongly felt than when sitting on the steps of the amazing Ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina, just one of a number of extraordinary historical monuments in the famous hill town. Noto meanwhile, owes its architecture to the Sicilian Baroque style of the 17th century. |
