The beach resorts of Sicily stand apart from the larger seaside towns and are almost entirely given over to the pursuit of relaxation. Sicily has three coastlines and as such, a huge number of towns, beach resorts and stand-alone beaches occupying them.
One of the favourite locations in this category is Mondello with its famous pier and large stretch of sandy beach which makes it hugely popular with Palermitans who are lucky enough to live close by. Offering something quite different is the colourful little resort of Marzamemi with its lovely restaurants and shops. |
Fontane Bianche dazzles with its soft sand and shallow blue water, while Marina di Ragusa is one of the largest resorts in Sicily with excellent dining and accommodation options. Fans of television's Inspector Montalbano will recognise the resort of Punta Secca which doubles-up as his home in the show, while pretty Sampieri is another Sicilian favourite.
