The Ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina is perhaps the most iconic sight in the whole of Sicily. Originally built around the third century BC, it's an important monument from the Magna Graecia period when Greek culture was in the ascendancy in Southern Italy.
In modern times, evocative open-air concerts are performed on balmy summer evenings in the popular hill town of Taormina. |
