One of the most fascinating sights on the Sicilian landscape is the quirky Castello Manfredonico in the little town of Mussomeli.
Dominating the landscape in a seemingly precarious and impregnable position, the Castello di Mussomeli as it's also known is one of the main highlights of a visit to Caltanissetta Province. The castle was built by the Normans during the 12th century and was considered a vital stronghold against local and further away threats at a tumultuous time in the island's history. It's now the main visitor attraction in the sleepy hill town.
